I admit it, being preggers has not led me to be my most creative self, at least not when it comes to writing or keeping up with this blog, but it has inspired me in other ways and while my shower was a couple weeks ago, I thought I'd document it on here and share some of the fun we had.
When I first learned about our pregnancy I was of course overjoyed, excited and a bundle of nerves thinking about all the unknowns that come along with bringing a new life into the world. I cried happy tears and quickly starting envisioning how the rest of my life would go (everyone does that right?) and even started thinking about first birthdays and beyond. At some point it dawned on me that I, living in Houston, was so very far from most of my family and friends and that a lot of the special moments I was about to experience might actually end up being quite lonely. Not wanting to mar any of my happiness, I decided that it was okay, lots of people live far from their families and friends and all of my experiences would be just as memorable and happy, either with the crowd or not. With that said, I figured there would be no baby shower, after all, I can't expect people to travel so far just for a little party, so I put the thought out of my head and focused instead on making lists of what I needed to start getting together and spending way too many hours on Pinterest putting together plans for a nursery.
It wasn't long after my husband and I announced our news, that our awesome, wonderful, amazing neighbors (can you tell I like them?) offered to host a shower at their house, knowing we didn't really have anyone here to do something like that. At first I thought it was sweet, but didn't think too much on it, as I already resolved myself to not having one, but as the weeks went on, plans started taking shape and soon a magical little event was being put together.
As most people already know, it is quite the understatement to say I enjoy Harry Potter. I'm a Harry Potter freak and I'm not ashamed to admit it, well maybe just a little... Anyway being the Potterhead I am, my neighbor, Christine, and I decided it would be most appropriate to go with a Harry Potter theme for the shower. With that idea set, off we went! Trusting, as always, Pinterest to steer me in the right creative direction, I decided to make snitches, cupcake mandrake favors and my tried and true penne ala vodka (not Potter related but yummy nonetheless). It was turning out to be very cute, but Christine really out did herself with her decorations and set up. It was she who truly made the day magical. Look below to see what I mean.
Like I said, Christine was just amazing at putting everything together. As soon as I walked into her house I was taken back. She set everything in a specific place with such care and attention to detail, I was truly overcome.
It was such a fun day. We were goofy. We were happy. We ate good food, had great conversations and celebrated a little boy, not yet here, but who's already so loved. The family and friends who were able to attend our little shower truly made the day extra special. It was above and beyond what we could have hoped for or expected and we are both just so thankful!!!
I'm a lucky girl to have such wonderful friends who happen to be our neighbors. I'm really looking forward to watching our families grow together, knowing the wonderful memories we will make will be the real magic of life.
My next post will be on the nursery. Jon has been working so hard on making everything just right for this crazy nesting lady! I want to do a nice shout out for him, so hopefully I manage to put that together before the baby actually arrives!! Stay tuned!
